I am Shukuru

I am Shukuru.

Swahili/Arabic meaning: thankful and grateful.

I thought I chose this name but I’m sure it chose me.. I had 3 small children and life was sending me tests left and right. About to breakdown, I went into the basement to do laundry that was actually already done.. Incense smoke (that my husband left burning) came rising to meet my descent. My “eye” caught an album cover from my husbands vast record collection, with the name “Shukuru” on it and it drew me in. I sat on the basement steps, wept and read the album cover front and back. And it hit me... embody this name “Shukuru” in word, spirit and deed and change your life! I let the tears flow as my heart swelled with love and gratitude for all the blessings that I had neglected to reflect on.. Tears also help to purify the heart...❤️ Next, I checked the washer and to my surprise it was all clear; just like my new vision. I was sent into the basement which is also a metaphor for the subconscious mind, to unearth some necessary truths to release and grow into my full divine feminine self.

Shukuru was now becoming and still is... I’m trusting my intuition and my journey more than ever now, especially in this time of solitude, serenity, soul searching and deep reflection. Allah says, if we are grateful, we will be given more.
